Madam, - On RTÉ television news a few evenings ago three items in particular caught my attention.
I refer to the famine in Niger, the Galway Races and the launch of the space shuttle in Florida. The pictures from Niger showed harrowing scenes of emaciated children on the verge of death from starvation; the pictures from Galway showed well-dressed people enjoying themselves and spending (we were told) millions of euro in the process; and the pictures from Florida showed a rocket blasting into space at a cost of countless millions of dollars.
Surely there is something radically wrong with our priorities when scenes of such utter degradation and hopelessness can be shown side by side with scenes of such lavish expenditure. - Yours, etc,
