Sir, - At a time when public transport is being encouraged, it is extraordinary how difficult pedestrian crossings are. I refer to the inadequate time allowed to cross safely by the "green man" signal. This can be a problem for all pedestrians but it is much more so obviously for elderly and disabled people and people crossing with young children. On visits to Britain I have observed that the time allowed to the pedestrian to cross is more reasonable at similar crossings. - Yours, etc.,
