Madam, – The Government seems to think that an election now would send out the wrong message to the dreaded international bond markets.
May I suggest that the international bond markets already consider us to be a basket case and it is therefore an ideal time for “radical” action such as due democratic process.
There are five stages in the grief process. The first is Denial (don’t talk down the economy). The second is Anger (greedy bankers/developers/politicians).
We seem to be mired at this second stage. I believe that an election now will allow us to move forward onto the (admittedly, not very enticing) final three stages: Bargaining, Depression and eventually Acceptance.
Perhaps then we can put our backs into forging a new Ireland. – Yours, etc,
