Sir, - I have recently come across a reference to a woman who was born in Slane, Co Meath, in the 1840s and who, after some years of success as a writer in the 1870s, was left in poverty in later life and is said to have received assistance from the Royal County Fund. She died about 1895.
I should be interested to know something more about the Royal County Fund and would be grateful to any of your readers who might be able to give me any information regarding its formation, objects and activities in the 19th century. - Yours, etc.,
