Sir, - I refer to a letter headed "Domestic violence and gender" and signed by five feminist sociologists (December 17th). This stated inter alia: "What feminist ever wrote that women should have total responsibility for children, and that men should be 'free' or excluded from parental responsibility?"
If the five feminist sociologists so desire, I would be delighted to furnish them with a list of several dozen leading Irish feminists who, over the past five years or so, have attacked me in the most vicious and personalised terms for daring to suggest that fathers should have equal standing with mothers as parents of their children.
On second thoughts, it might be easier to list those feminists who have publicly supported me in this. I can think of just one: Mary Maher. - Yours etc.,
John Waters, Dalkey, Co Dublin.
