Sir, - I am an Irish citizen residing abroad but, unlike Andrew Doyle (May 5th), I do not believe that non-resident Irish citizens should have the right to vote. Although I am sympathetic to a certain degree, I would need to be convinced that the following statements are incorrect before I could lend my support to the Irish Emigrant Vote Campaign: A high percentage of Irish emigrants do not fully understand the issues, due mainly to a lack of information and public debate; more importantly, emigrants do not have to bear the consequences of any decisions that the people of Ireland make. Yours, etc., Derek Gallagher,
Washington DC, USA.
