Sir, - I was appalled to read a report (The Irish Times, July 28th) July) which began: "Serbian security forces conducted mopping-up operations against separatist fighters in Kosovo yesterday after scoring a series of successes against the rebels, Serb sources said."
"Mopping-up operations" conducted by Serbian security forces in Bosnia between 1992 and 1995 resulted in ethnic cleansing, mass murder and attempted genocide. Even those most reluctant to face this awful truth at the time have come to accept it now.
At the time, "Serb sources" consistently denied that any atrocities were taking place. It was all the fault of the Bosnian Muslim terrorists. Of course.
Serbian forces are using the same brutality against the ethnic Albanian population of Kosovo as they did against Bosnian Muslims in Bosnia. It is unacceptable that a paper of The Irish Times's stature should play the Serb game, not least by supporting a dubious Reuters report with a letter from Ireland's resident Serb propagandist, Mr Zivko Jaksic. - Yours, etc.,
