Madam, - I would like to add my voice to that of Dr Jimmy Devins TD (January 4th), who called for any museum devoted to the works of J.B. Yeats to be built in Sligo where we have, as Dr Devins said, a wonderful collection of the artist's paintings.
I would go further and say that Sligo should be the centre for a comprehensive museum devoted to the lives and works of the whole Yeats family, as it was the birthplace of Susan Pollexfen, mother of the brothers Yeats and their talented sisters, Lillie and Lollie.
The landscape, people and mythology of this county inspired the brothers Yeats and they both stated that they never created anything that did not have something of Sligo in it.
The name Yeats is celebrated in Sligo annually at the W.B. Yeats International Summer School, now in its 47th year, and its success has made the names Sligo and Yeats entwined in people's minds all over the world.
I urge Dr Devins to set the ball rolling and get this project off the ground as quickly as possible. - Yours, etc,
MAURA McTIGHE,
Moorfield House,
Drumcliffe,
Co Sligo.
