Sir, - Focus Point Ireland has been providing services to homeless people for 11 years, and this year our services have been needed more than ever. For homeless people, Christmas is a forceful and unwelcome reminder of everything they do not have: family, food, warmth, a place they can call home. Our work with young people, families, and single adults can he a vital step in regaining self-esteem and the beginning of a path leading finally to a home of their own.
More resources are urgently needed to tackle this problem, both from the statutory and Voluntary sectors. So at the same time as calling on the generosity of the public to help fund our work, we welcome the commitment to increase government spending announced in the Hook of Estimates, if a result is fewer homeless people in Ireland. - Yours, etc
