Sir, – One of the basic principles of environmentalism is that of “Reduce, reuse and recycle”. Your readers would do well to note the order. It is simply untenable that a consumer who reduces and reuses should pay the same for waste treatment as someone who mistakenly thinks that throwing a used plastic bottle or cardboard box in the green bin means there has been no net environmental impact. – Yours, etc,
