Madam, - Apart from the sailors who lost their lives, there was another victim of the storm that wrecked the 1979 Fastnet Race (The Irish Times, August 16th). In its deceptive early stages J.G. Farrell, author of Troubles, The Siege of Krishnapur and The Singapore Grip, and a winner of the Booker prize, was swept off rocks while fishing near his home in West Cork. Fortunately his words outstrip the steadily accumulating anniversaries of his death. - Yours, etc.,
