Sir, – Your obituary on Yitzhak Shamir (Obituaries, July 7th) was quite comprehensive, but omitted something of Irish interest. During the Israeli war of independence up to 1948 Shamir’s code name was “Micail” after his mentor Michael Collins. He had studied Collins tactics in how a tiny country can liberate itself from a world power, and used his knowledge prior to independence and afterwards in his 10 years in the Mossad. – Yours, etc,
