Madam, – I had just finished reading Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Gowhen I read Eleanor Fitzsimons's article on book clubs (Arts, October 6th). I was following her defence of her club with a dispassionate interest until she described Ishiguro's book, whose chills were still settling in my bones, as "playful". This opinion, so wildly divergent from my own, gave me a terrible shock.
What I am supposed to do now? Join a book club? – Yours, etc,
