Madam, - Denis Tuohy, (An Irishman's Diary, April 12th) vividly described the German bombing of Belfast in April 1941, and appropriately linked it to the civilians who suffered in the bombing of Iraq.
At least there was a positive side to the Belfast bombing, if such was possible. Within hours, fully manned fire fighting appliances and ambulances from "Eire" rushed to Belfast to render assistance. This story has recently been told in a 40-page booklet, Belfast is Burning 1941. which also deals with the controversial issues of who in Belfast asked for assistance and where in Dublin was the decision to send it.
