Madam, - Tim O'Halloran's letter of August 26th is most apposite.
One could add that our glorious republic is probably the only country in the EU where it is not possible for students to take either logic or philosophy at second level. These subjects can be taken, for example, for A-level in Britain and for the corresponding levels in France and Germany. I wonder why this has been the case for so long. - Yours, etc,
