Sir, - I read with interest (and a little irritation) the article by Alison O'Connor in The Irish Times of August 17th. She begins by admitting that she doesn't remember much about the Beatles; obviously this is true. How is it possible to compare the Beatles to anyone, let alone Oasis, if you know so little about the former?
May I quote just a small sample: "Seeing the reaction of the crowd before Noel (John) had touched his guitar or Liam (Paul) had sung a single note told its own story, These guys have charisma. Sounds familiar? If she is looking for big Beatle fans, she need look no further than Noel and Liam. Oasis are a super group, no question about it. Great lyrics, great sound. But to try to reduce their biggest musical influence to "bland" says a lot about her knowledge of rock music.
The only song written by one of the Beatles that she mentions is Mull of Kintyre. Perhaps She's a Woman who needs some "help" to "get back" and listen to some pre Mull of Kintyre. Yours, etc.,
