Sir, - Mr Butler (March 10th) holds the somewhat misguided view that the aim of the 1798 Rising was to unite Catholic, Protestant and Dissenter. That was the honourable aim of the United Irishmen, but the aim of the Rising was to break the connection with England.
In the bicentenary of that inspired but ill-fated rising, fitting tribute to the revolutionary spirit of 1798 would be for the nation to seek an immediate British withdrawal from this country. - Yours, etc., Corinna N∅ Chβrthaigh
