A chara, - Last Wednesday your front-page photograph showed an Afghan man pleading for help in a refugee camp in Pakistan; on Friday it showed an American naval officer saying goodbye to his wife before boarding an aircraft carrier.
Not all readers will view these photographs with equal feeling, but the hearts of all people should go out to both of these young men. For their lives lie not in their own hands but in the hands of those who have asked for a war and those who intend to respond to that invitation.
In a matter of weeks or days both these young men could well be dead. Who will we feel sorry for then? - Is mise,
