Sir, - The Irish Times and RTE (specifically Network 2) are to be congratulated on their excellent and extensive coverage of the tragedy in East Timor. Unfortunately for the East Timorese people, it is not yet over as the UN troops do not seem powerful enough to overcome the militias.
Tom Hyland's role in bringing the issue to the forefront in Ireland should not be underrated. I would like to propose him as Person of the Year, or some similar award. HIs dedication not go unrecognised. - Yours, etc.
