Sir, - So the members of Dail Eireann have returned to their story that they are poorly rewarded for their services to the State, and like other nominally underpaid employees of the State, now seek a 29 percent increase in their salary (and presumably a like increase in their expenses).
Rhetorical question: why does not Dail Eireann reduce staffing levels from 166 to 120 to fund an increase in the pay requested, as would normally be the route taken in plcs? Evidence of improved efficiency to fund an increase is flimsy. - Yours, etc.,
G.C. Farran, Braemor Park, Dublin 14.
