Sir, – We have been treated to some excellent journalism from John Waters (Opinion, August 17th) and Theo Dorgan (August 18th) relating to Katie Taylor and issues of faith. It strikes me how much the spiritual axis of our country has changed when today, the comments of a person who expresses their faith in a genuine, sincere and non-belligerent way becomes the focus of so much attention.

Our Christian faith used to be woven into the fabric of our being and our society, but the increasing disillusionment with religion has ripped this precious gift away from many, often replacing it with a cynical disappointment.

The authenticity and grace of a young Olympic champion has encouraged us now to speak up and discuss such matters socially, at work and elsewhere – the subject of faith is once more in the public domain. Where we take it from here is up to each one of us. – Yours, etc,
