Taxis For Wheelchairs

Sir, - I was so excited in December last when I heard that 200 new wheelchair-accessible taxi licences were being issued.

Last Saturday night (July 4th), I rang a number of taxi companies looking for an accessible taxi. I couldn't get one.

The reasons the companies gave were: they had no accessible taxis; they had no accessible taxis available; they did not know when they would have one available.

I would like to ask the Department of the Environment: where are the 200 new accessible taxis? The taxi companies either do not have any or have only one or two. - Yours, etc., Dermot Walsh,
