Sir, - Your Editorial of November 10th says that "the Ellis affair" could not be consigned to history as the Taoiseach suggested, any more than could the various tribunals. You add that Mr Ahern would better serve the Government, his party and the citizens of this State if he "appeared" to be guided more by principle and less by expediency.
To even "appear" to be guided by principle would, in my opinion, be asking too much of someone whose political pronouncements have invariably contained built-in escape routes, some adroit side-stepping or smooth sidling, with some apologetic amnesia at the ready if all fruit fails. - Yours, etc.,
