Sir, - Most people know by now that it is futile to expect anything from politicians. Nevertheless, it was surprising to read Quidnunc openly expressing the widespread sympathy for Nora Owen because she had gone straight into a tough job and was inexperienced to the point of never having served in government before. This is farce, along the lines of the young man who murdered his parents and then threw himself on the mercy of the court because he was an orphan.
Obviously in any sane organisation, she would never even have been proposed for such a job. In a mad hatter organisation like the Dail, where nobody will ever be held responsible for the most appalling cock ups, it doesn't really matter, though.
I wonder how much "widespread sympathy" there was outside the Dail. No wonder so few people bother to vote any more. - Yours, etc.,
Tinahely,
Co Wicklow.
