Sir, - Mayo is not the only county synonymous with hopeless planning but it is certainly one of the worst.
Which other authority would have permitted a bungalow to be builtright above the magnificent Ashleagh Falls, where the beautiful riverErriff tumbles into the sea at Leenane, undoubtedly Co Mayo's mostspectacular tourist stop?
Clllr Carty (March 5th) cites the desire/needs of young people; fairenough, but why are there so many brand new dwellings in Mayo with "ForSale" signs at the gate, often in high amenity areas. Urgent socialneed? Nonsense. Crude speculation.
By all means, strengthen the village and towns and theircommunities. Limit development to within a reasonable walking distance(with buggy) of existing such settlements, thus helping the place, possibly attracting commerce, cutting the cost arising from isolateddwellings (doctors, school runs, post deliveries, water, ESB andtelephone connections, etc.), and arrest the further decline of theonce wonderful landscape. - Yours, etc.,
Ballylina Lodge,
Borrisokane,
Co Tipperary.
