Madam, - Your columnist Tony Humphreys (Education & Parenting, January 14th), giving advice on dealing with children's tantrums, seems to suggest that a child young enough to treat the supermarket as a playground is old enough to be left in a car on his or her own while the parent finishes off the shopping.

Well, if they are young enough or badly behaved enough to be out of control under supervision, ... ... ... then ... . . .well, you see my point. Then there is the frightening risk of leaving a child alone in a car park.

No, I don't have any of the answers, but this just can't be one of them. - Yours, etc.
