JOHN NATHAN,
Madam, - I am very concerned about the profits being taken by the supermarket chains which operate here. Last Saturday I purchased a crate of clementines in the fruit market in Smithfield: €14 for 140. That afternoon Superquinn in Ballinteer was selling eight for €1.92. If Superquinn paid what I did - which I doubt, given the firm's purchasing power - it had a 90 per cent mark-up. No wonder people are concerned about the cost of goods.
Let's have some real competition and give value to consumers. - Yours, etc.,
JOHN NATHAN, Dublin 16.
