Sir, - As an immigration specialist originally from Dungannon, Co Tyrone, I have to agree with Rev Thomas Flynn's advice (April 30th) to prospective summer job-seekers in the US.
Every year students are arrested and deported for working without valid authorisation. Every year students are exploited by unscrupulous employers. Every year students "go underground" in the hope of staying in the Us.
Every year I get calls from despondent family members wondering how their sons, or daughters can be helped out a mess because some kind-hearted gombeen man led them astray.
Take the advice of one who has been there: obtain the appropriate visa; ensure you have a job; travel with a friend; and, above all, have adequate funding in addition to a round-trip ticket to bail you out if necessary. - Yours, etc.,
Patrick J. Corr, Immigration consultant, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.
