Sudden closure of Hughes Hughes

Madam, – It has been a week since Hughes Hughes closed its high street shops by order of the appointed receivers. The airport branches were dealt with separately and now their future seems assured.

During the week high street staff have attempted to come to terms with the situation. Many are still angry that they had no prior notice of what was to happen. The first thing staff on the shop floor knew about the situation was when receivers arrived to close up and take control of stock, cash and keys.

Shamefully, the news was broadcast nationally before all staff had been informed of the loss of their jobs. Receivers arriving seemed surprised that shop staff had not been forewarned. To date, the only correspondence anyone has received is a curt official letter from the receiver’s office informing members of staff that they are laid off.

No personal contact has been made with the staff by the management offering regret, apology or thanks. No personal assurances that anyone cares.
