Sir, – I am a sixth-year student at Drimnagh Castle secondary school. The student council of which I am a part has been advocating a greater student participation regarding school policies on crucial topics such as bullying and discrimination, and through this we believe students will feel less dictated to and more peer-led in their everyday life at school.
We have focused on peer-facilitating a cyber-bullying campaign to get our message across through student-led workshops and video presentations.
The saddening occurrences of suicides caused by cyber-bullying prompted us to start a wider campaign to spread our message to student councils nationally and are now extending our “lets kick it out” campaign to many primary schools.
Social media is such a big part of young people’s lives today and we at Drimnagh Castle wish to make this medium a safe and beneficial one for all to use. – Yours, etc,
