A chara, - As a third level student, I write in disgust at the present Government's failure to address the ongoing problems faced by students in third level colleges in this country. On November 12th, a ballot in many colleges throughout the country clearly indicated that most students attending a third level institute are dissatisfied with the Government's commitment to student financial support, housing, student union funding and representation.
Our demands on these issues have been forwarded to Minister Bhreathnach. These demands would not cost the earth, yet according to the article on the front page of your paper (December 18th) the Government has been rushing through a Bill to increase the funding for party offices in Leinster House and is also adjusting TDs' expenses to over double "what these are at this moment in time!
Ignoring the needs and views of students could prove fatal not only to the education system of, this country, but also many a political career because as we as students (and our parents) represent a sizeable proportion of the electorate. - Yours etc,
