Sir, - Thomas O'Carroll (May 30th), and M.D. Kennedy (June 6th), both make excellent points regarding street signs in Dublin, well in the whole country in fact. I feel this is one of very few areas where the Americans may have something to teach us. Every American city I have been in has had a simple system whereby at every intersection (no matter how small) there is a pole with signs stating the name of each street and direction of each street. As well as being visible to motorists travelling in all directions they also overcome the problem when one building is demolished and the road sign is not replaced on the new building. - Yours, etc.,
