Sir, - Like your contributor Angela Long (February 11th) I was left extremely irritated by BBC's Panorama programme about the children of working mothers. It was a ridiculous programme. I was also irritated by Angela Long. She. chose, firstly, to defend her position as a working mother - implying there was a case to answer - and then she turned her attention on men who, she seems to believe, are solely responsible for the perpetuation of the inequality between the sexes.

While I don't believe that there is any systematic bashing of men going on I am becoming tired of the tendency of some women commentators to generalise about them.

I am a stay at home father. I am so because when my wife and I considered the need for one of us to be at home with our child, I was in a job I detested and she was in a job that she loved and would pay the bills. We made the logical choice.

It's time for society to consider seriously the role of men as homemakers. We are not all Neanderthals. - Yours, etc,
