Madam, – Is Frank E Bannister (April 29th) suggesting that parents who choose to send their children to non fee-paying schools have no interest in education? “Family A believes in education while Family B sends its children to the local free school”. As a teacher in a non fee-paying school I can assure Mr Bannister that our parents are deeply interested in the education of their children. – Yours, etc,
Madam, – Frank E Bannister’s (April 29th) hypothetical scenario is quite a bizarre defence of fee-paying schools. He seems to believe that the issue here is one of some people wanting a good education for their children, while others are more interested in their cars.
What about all of those families that simply cannot afford to send their children to fee-paying, state-subsidised schools? I’m not sure if their omission from his story is unintentional or if they simply aren’t important enough to be considered.
The use of public money to prop up these elitist institutions is completely unacceptable at a time when some of our public schools are operating out of prefabs. – Yours, etc,
