Sir, - I recently had the pleasure of watching the Mardi Gras street parade in a well-known town on the Costa del Sol. While this was a modest affair compared with the St Patrick's Day parades in Dublin and other cities and towns, it embodied one feature which was both effective and - to Irish eyes - unusual.
Following immediately after the final float came a pair of motor road-sweepers and half-a-dozen men with brooms and small dustcarts. As a result, the road was returned to (at least) its former cleanliness before the end of the parade had disappeared.
This simple remedy could be applied here without any need for numbers of councillors to make costly visits to study the technology. - Yours, etc., B. K. Chambers,
