Madam, - While one might overlook the occasional misspelling of obscure place names there is surely no excuse for a local authority to misspell its own county town. Yet this is the case in Co Kildare.
For many years, on entering Kilcock, Co Kildare from Summerhill, Co Meath there was a sign with the mileage and direction to "Nass" (sic).
It was hoped that when the new metric signs were introduced in 2005, this would be rectified. It wasn't. In fact the new sign, in addition to giving directions to the same town of "Nass", now also includes direction and distance to a town called "Ennfield". - Yours, etc,

Madam, - On a most enjoyable trip from Galway to the magnificent Cliffs of Moher I too spotted a few howlers, namely "Lehinch" and "Corrofin". These were repeated at a number of places, with the Lahinch error adorning one of the major signs.
I can understand the occasional error but such consistency of these and obviously others, as indicated by letters to this page, tell of a casual indifference to the need for accuracy. - Yours, etc,
