Madam, – With horror I read in yesterday’s paper (April 15th) that Naval Service cadets ascended the River Shannon in five hours 51 minutes. Taking into account five locks at approx 10 minutes each they averaged 60kph.
The speed limit is 10kph.
This speed would have a detrimental effect on the river banks and nesting birds.
Has the Department of Defence lost its head in allowing this to happen. – Yours, etc,
