Sir, - Your Property Editor, Jack Fagan, has allowed his memory to deceive him (Property, August 26th). Todd's department store was in Mary Street on both sides, with the main store on the south side and the furniture section on the north side. Pimm's was the big department store in South Great George's Street, stretching on the west side from Exchequer Street almost to Dame Street. My memory of it in the 1930s was of the marvellous Christmas toy catalogue with membership badge, the superb window displays and a great Santa Claus show.
South Great George's Street lost its stature as an essential centre with the loss of Hafner's, Cassidy's, Dockrell's and most certainly Pimm's. Congratulations to Dunne's Stores and their architects for an imaginative plan to bring back some, at least, of its former glory. - Yours, etc.
