Sir, - Michael Dwyer praises Jim Sheridan's excellent and flawed film The Boxer and lambasts Trish McAdam's excellent and flawed film Snakes and Ladders (Sound & Vision, February 6th). A more even-handed approach would be fairer than this half-full, half-empty type of film criticism.
Trish McAdam's film got serious and appreciative reviews from critics at the Toronto Film Festival - and a standing ovation from the audience. Why should it deserve less here? A wry look at friendship between Irish women and men, I hope that it gets overflowing audiences at the Irish Film Centre - and a Second Opinion in your paper. - Yours, etc.,
Lelia Doolan,
Kilcolgan, Co Galway.
