Madam, – Regarding smacking children (Home News, June 29th), all criminal assault in Ireland is indictable under the 1997 Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act. That Act does not exclude anyone under the age of 18 as a victim of criminal assault nor does it make any allowance for parents to hit their children.
