A chara, - There has been much ado about the blatant fabrication that Sinn Féin is somehow trying to "usurp" the Irish Tricolour. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Sinn Féin believes the Tricolour is the property of the Irish people, North and South. Since its inception in the mid-19th century the flag has come to symbolise a united Irish Republic. It was used by the Young Irelanders and the Fenians. It was the flag that flew over the GPO in 1916 and Free Derry in 1972. Sinn Féin does not seek to claim the flag for itself, but to ensure its purpose for being is maintained.

We will not be demonised or falsely accused by the likes of Michael McDowell and his acolytes. These are the people who are actually misrepresenting and hijacking the Tricolour by trying to confine it to their partitionist mentality. - Is mise,
