Madam, - I note from your edition of November 25th that a new report has shown that only 18 per cent of teachers in national schools are male. Despite this, Mary Hanafin, Minister for Education, says that the use of a quota system to address this imbalance "could run counter to equality legislation".
Well, what do you know? Surely no one would dispute that if the imbalance were the other way round, with only 18 per cent of teachers female, a quota system would be introduced right away.
