Madam, – I was saddened to read that Arnotts, Clerys and Brown Thomas have decided to break with decades of tradition and open on St Stephen’s Day (Front page, December 1st).
I presume this means staff will have to work Christmas Day to prepare for the sales. It will tempt those people who think that life is about shopping and acquiring “must haves” to leave their homes and families on Christmas night to queue, or even to sleep rough. What a sad state of affairs. – Yours, etc,
