Service and tipping

Sir, - I read Orna Mulcahy's review of The Bakery restaurant in Wicklow (Weekend, August 5th). In summary, she thought the setting nice, but complained about the service and the quality of the food.

What amazed me was that she left a tip of more than £5.00! If you are not satisfied with the service, not to say the quality of the food, surely one of the ways to show your dissatisfaction is not to tip? In fact, if you do tip, surely it presumes that you were happy with the service and the quality?

When I am unhappy with the service I do not leave a tip. I also complain to the establishment to ensure they do not perceive my lack of tipping as an oversight. If everyone did likewise, maybe the standard of service and quality would improve. - Yours, etc.,
