Madam, – We are being told that executive salaries in semi- State companies cannot be changed since there are contracts in place which cannot be broken.

Contracts of employment last for only a definitive period of time, which means that sooner or later these can be renegotiated.  In addition, it is unheard of for such contracts to be agreed without a force majeure clause being included: this allows either party to terminate the contract in times of unforeseen circumstances.

There is no doubt that Ireland today is going through unforeseen circumstances, so I see no reason why these salaries cannot be terminated forthwith and renegotiated appropriately.

Come on Ireland – come to your senses.  These semi-State salaries are totally inappropriate for the times we live in.  Let’s do something about it! – Yours, etc,
