Sir, - I am bemused by Warren Gatland's comments about the lack of "decision makers" on the Irish rugby team. In a time when tactical substitutions are allowed, the importance of decision-making by the coach and manager cannot be overstated. Warren Gatland and Donal Lenihan had poor games against England, and again against Scotland.
Warren Gatland - from New Zealand, a major sheep-farming country - should hone his skills in the use of the shepherd's crook, and should not be afraid to use it more often in the future. - Yours, etc., David P. Jameson,
York Road, Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin.
