Sir, - It was very noticeable before last Saturday's rugby international against England that all of the English players sang God Save The Queen with gusto, while almost all of the Irish players were mute as the cameras panned along their faces during Amhran na bhFiann.
Is it too much to ask that the Irish team be encouraged to sing our anthem with as much conviction as other teams do with theirs? The same might be done with the Irish soccer team, with players born outside Ireland being taught the words if necessary. - Yours, etc.,
Carrigaline,
Co Cork.
