Sir, - I concur with Robin O'Malley's observations (January 7th) about the incredible quantities of rubbish to be seen along the DART trackline. While I accept his comments with regard to tourists and what they might think of us, I believe that this line of argument - which I have noticed in many protests about litter - is in fact part of our problem. It is like saying that it is all right for the place to be like a pigsty if it is only for us, but we really must do something about it because of what tourists will think of us. We will never really overcome this problem until we realise that we should be concerned about it for our own sakes. - Yours, etc.,
Old Conna Wood, Bray, Co Wicklow.
