Sir, - The dumbing-down and blandness of the new weather forecasts on RTE television are glaringly obvious and well recorded by earlier correspondents. The old maps, colours and symbols were the best on television in these parts. The presenters, in addition to being scientifically qualified and excellent communicators of their message, also had "soul". Actors can't have that.
I would challenge an accountable person from RTE television to correspond through these columns explaining why (a) the changes were made in the first place; and (b) Met Eireann and its first-class presenters are not fully re-engaged. As a public service broadcastee I expect nothing less.
I would also lay a large money bet that there will be no response. - Yours, etc.,
