Sir, - As a cultured, sober and articulate person at the Rose of Tralee selection, I must say I thoroughly enjoyed myself along with the other 2,000 people present. The roses were gorgeous, well educated and so talented.
Paul Byrne's boorish letter (August 26th), sadly, only highlights his own cultural shortcomings: he fails to realise that our "Irishness" is a kaleidiscope of many entertainments, be they in literature, theatre, dance, music, sport, puc fadas, puck fairs, festivals.
May the Tralee festival long continue as the last rose of summer. - Yours, etc.,
Emer Delaney, Caherslee, Tralee, Co Kerry.
